let me be a woman

go and work,
go off and play,
don’t waste your days to stay …
the world is at your feet
so “go and take it” they will say.

yet I will stand,
and as I wait
for the tears to touch my face,
they’ll think I’m weak,
fall to my knees to speak,
“let me be a woman”.

be vivacious,
make a scene,
nothing’s worth more than living your dreams …
the world is on your doorstep
so “go and take it” they will say.

yet I will remain,
and as I do,
crying to Him and crying for you,
they’ll think I’m weak,
fall to my knees to speak,
“let me be a woman”.

just be yourself,
just be true,
your emotions are your greatest cues …
the world was created just for you
so “go and take it” they will say.

yet I will fight,
and as I slay,
the lies of demons run away.
but they’ll think I’m weak,
fall to my knees to speak,
“let me be a woman”.

don’t need no man,
they’re good for nothing,
why submit or clean up something … ?
the world is run by us
so “go and take it” they will say.

yet I will serve,
as I rejoice,
in the men of honour who’ve made the choice.
they’ll think I’m weak,
fall to my knees to speak,
“let me be a woman”.

take control,
take the lead,
let no one make you obsolete …
the world is wasting away beneath your feet
so “go and take it” they will say.

yet I will refrain,
as I edify,
my brothers who all live to die.
they’ll think I’m weak,
fall to my knees to speak,
“let me be a woman”.

my dear, be humble,
be brave and kind,
we weren’t created to walk our own line …
His world is one of great design
so “go and embrace it” I will say.

one day I’ll hold you
in my arms,
the sweetest gift
of sweeter charms,
and pray against the greatest harms,
“Lord let her be a woman”

don’t listen to what the world will say,
they take what they want and throw the rest away,
but I will fight for your heart till my dying day
“Lord let her be a woman”.

yes we’ll be strong,
as we sing,
of better days and our Heavenly King …
but they’ll think we’re weak,
fall to our knees and speak,
“let us be women”.

new beginnings

I have contemplated a lot about blogging again.

Our world, well it feels so very divided, so very desperate, and so very depressed. There is a lot of noise going on outside: shouts of anger, tears of painful sadness, voices of confusion, and screaming thoughts of anxiety. These sounds, they ring loud and clear, and yet people still seem to be one hundred percent lost and looking for something else. Something better. Something that is truly good.

I do not merely want to add to that noise, and so I hope instead that this place might be a little different.

I am but one person, who has lived one life, and who serves one God. I am no expert, no influencer, no professional, no everything or everyone, I am just one.

And I hope that when you come to this place, you too can feel like it is a place for just one. For you, and for me, and for those you love.

A place where everything feels a little quieter. Where the noisiness can be drowned out by the peace of a river that flows so near to you. Where troubles seem a little less scary, and hope feels a little more tangible.

A place to heal from deep wounds. A place to remember what it’s like to watch the raindrops race down the window in the backseat of the car at nighttime, illuminated by the lamp-posts and traffic lights. A place to laugh about the silliness of the human experience. A place to reflect and reminisce. A place that might even feel like home at times, in its own way.

I don’t really have rules or an agenda, no point to push, but just a desire to write and see where it takes me, and where it might also take you.

Here I hope you will find words that boast the fragrance of thoughtfulness and creativity, with a hint of nostalgia, longing, and reflection.

Here I hope you begin to understand yourself and understand others a little more with each line, each phrase, each idea. That you might begin to see how we are all very much connected and affected by each other, and very much able to change the path we are headed down by the most glorious gift of grace.

And lastly, it is here that I hope you might meet someone, someone who sees you, knows you, and loves you. Who holds every tear in a bottle made just for you. Who knows every strand of hair that flutters in the breeze upon your head. Who I can only imagine has the absolute kindest eyes in the entirety of the world’s history of eyes. Maybe you have already met this person, this lover of our souls, and maybe it is your first time, but no matter, I hope you see him more clearly than ever.

May my writing be an echo of love and a humble beacon of light, from him to you.

Love, Courtney.

you can’t do everything a boy can do.

To my future daughters (sons, you could learn from this too),

A boy will never be what you will be.

A boy will never be a Wife. Dressed in brilliant white, gliding down the walkway of a pristine chapel, or a remodelled rustic barn, or a gorgeously grand garden. All eyes fixated on the event of a lifetime. He will never be that. But you might.

A boy will never be a Mother. Built with an internal instinct that far surpasses any promotional next-generation child’s toy, wired to function on bare minimal sleep and still have a sweet and daring smile on her face, or push through the rewarding yet horrendous pain it takes to bring sweet children into the world. He will never be or do that. But you might.

A boy will never be “Daddy’s Little Girl”. Adored and cherished through means of desperate pursuit-worthy adventure, rescued from the clutches of the dragon (or the fluffy-and-not-actually-scary family dog) and set upon the feet of her Father to dance giddily around the room. A gentle & loving man, rightfully leading his daughter; raising her to know her true worth & value in the Lord. A boy will never be that. But you will.

A boy will never be a Princess or a Queen. He will never shine the way that you do when you wear a dress and it fits you perfectly and the room stops because your beauty is captivating. He won’t walk with the same graceful steps that you do, or teach & guide other young women the way that only you can towards their true purpose as aspiring advocates, faithful & sure servants, humble home-makers and edifying exhorters. A boy will never be those things. At least not the way that you can.

He will never be a daughter, a sister, an aunt or a grandmother. A boy can and never will be able to fill the place and purpose that you were created to fill. There are roles that were meant in this world just for you.

And in the same way …

You will never be a Husband, Father, “Mummy’s Boy”, Prince or King. Nor will you be a son, a brother, an uncle or a grandfather.

You are a girl and God made you that way. There were no accidents in His creation of you and all that you are. No. He made you to be a woman because that was his beautiful intention and design for you and he knew just what role he wanted you to play in the story of redeeming the world. In the way that only you my dear, in all your feminine glory, CAN.

And there will be many times where you will most certainly NEED a boy to help you with things. Now, he should never become your Saviour, that is for Jesus and only Jesus … But at times you may honestly not be able to lift something – as a very basic example. Be humble my dear girl, ask for help, don’t sit in your pride. It only takes away from your true beauty. Or maybe, like me right now, you’re suffering from that ridiculous once a month cramping dealio that happens and everything hurts and you can’t get out of bed. It’s okay to be in a place of weakness, God’s unending sovereign grace meets us in our weaknesses and blesses us. You are no less of a woman, because you are suffering from a pain that a man will never experience and you need to lie in bed all day instead of working on your feet and lifting heavy things.

It’s simple, I know, but it’s important to know that your differences are what makes it all the more beautiful.

“So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.” // Genesis 1:27

You are a girl and you can’t do everything a boy can do.

And that is okay. Because neither can a boy do everything you can do.

Love from someone who wants to be your Mother desperately one of these days, to raise you in the truth and light of God’s glorious love.
