you can’t do everything a boy can do.

To my future daughters (sons, you could learn from this too),

A boy will never be what you will be.

A boy will never be a Wife. Dressed in brilliant white, gliding down the walkway of a pristine chapel, or a remodelled rustic barn, or a gorgeously grand garden. All eyes fixated on the event of a lifetime. He will never be that. But you might.

A boy will never be a Mother. Built with an internal instinct that far surpasses any promotional next-generation child’s toy, wired to function on bare minimal sleep and still have a sweet and daring smile on her face, or push through the rewarding yet horrendous pain it takes to bring sweet children into the world. He will never be or do that. But you might.

A boy will never be “Daddy’s Little Girl”. Adored and cherished through means of desperate pursuit-worthy adventure, rescued from the clutches of the dragon (or the fluffy-and-not-actually-scary family dog) and set upon the feet of her Father to dance giddily around the room. A gentle & loving man, rightfully leading his daughter; raising her to know her true worth & value in the Lord. A boy will never be that. But you will.

A boy will never be a Princess or a Queen. He will never shine the way that you do when you wear a dress and it fits you perfectly and the room stops because your beauty is captivating. He won’t walk with the same graceful steps that you do, or teach & guide other young women the way that only you can towards their true purpose as aspiring advocates, faithful & sure servants, humble home-makers and edifying exhorters. A boy will never be those things. At least not the way that you can.

He will never be a daughter, a sister, an aunt or a grandmother. A boy can and never will be able to fill the place and purpose that you were created to fill. There are roles that were meant in this world just for you.

And in the same way …

You will never be a Husband, Father, “Mummy’s Boy”, Prince or King. Nor will you be a son, a brother, an uncle or a grandfather.

You are a girl and God made you that way. There were no accidents in His creation of you and all that you are. No. He made you to be a woman because that was his beautiful intention and design for you and he knew just what role he wanted you to play in the story of redeeming the world. In the way that only you my dear, in all your feminine glory, CAN.

And there will be many times where you will most certainly NEED a boy to help you with things. Now, he should never become your Saviour, that is for Jesus and only Jesus … But at times you may honestly not be able to lift something – as a very basic example. Be humble my dear girl, ask for help, don’t sit in your pride. It only takes away from your true beauty. Or maybe, like me right now, you’re suffering from that ridiculous once a month cramping dealio that happens and everything hurts and you can’t get out of bed. It’s okay to be in a place of weakness, God’s unending sovereign grace meets us in our weaknesses and blesses us. You are no less of a woman, because you are suffering from a pain that a man will never experience and you need to lie in bed all day instead of working on your feet and lifting heavy things.

It’s simple, I know, but it’s important to know that your differences are what makes it all the more beautiful.

“So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.” // Genesis 1:27

You are a girl and you can’t do everything a boy can do.

And that is okay. Because neither can a boy do everything you can do.

Love from someone who wants to be your Mother desperately one of these days, to raise you in the truth and light of God’s glorious love.
